Meet Kaitlyn!
Like many other teens, eighteen year old Kaitlyn loves watching baseball and cartoons. More than anything, Kaitlyn loves to create art, and when she feels well enough, a visit to a San Francisco art museum is a special treat, as is the opportunity to visit George Mark Children’s House for Respite Care. Kaitlyn, who has uncontrolled epilepsy and gastro paresis, cannot take feeling well for granted. In addition to having severe epilepsy since age two, Kaitlyn’s complicated intestinal problems emerged several years ago when she lost weight and was unable to keep food down. Kaitlyn now relies on a feeding tube for all of her nutrition and needs constant care and supervision from her mother and step-father.
Kaitlyn comes to George Mark several times each year for Respite Care, where she loves to do projects in the light-filled art room, sing with the music therapist, play with therapy dogs, and enjoy regular visits with an animator from Pixar Entertainment, all the while providing her loving family with some time off to recharge from the 24/7 responsibility for Kaitlyn’s health care. Watch this video to learn more about her story and see first hand how visits to GMCH brighten her day.
